Since the GEPT writing and oral tests are coming, I intend to read an article, write a short passage and make a conversation in English for ten minutes every day. I kind of have a strong feeling that I’m going to fail this one because I sense I’m losing my vocabulary and writing ability.
Now I want to introduce the movie that I watched yesterday – District 9. Before going to the theater, I tried to decide which movie to see from District 9, Case 39 and the 4th Kind. I’m glad that I chose District 9, which is really creative and interesting. I think it’s pretty original because I’ve never seen a movie of similar plots. The movie is talking about a UFO have shown up in the sky of JNB and turns out with hundreds of millions of aliens living in it. Humans have no choice but put them on District 9 in JNB so they can keep an eye on them. At first, people on earth want to help the aliens but after twenty years humans start to control and oppress them. There are many problems that the aliens are facing with. The company MNU who is in charge of District 9 and the local gangsters want nothing but the aliens’ weapons. They cheat and trick the aliens, abuse and hurt the aliens, and even kill and eat them for their own profits. Wikus used to be one of the MNU but after an accident he became a Prawn. The following story talks about Wikus’ s helping aliens go back to their plants.
District 9 used a lot of hand-held shooting which makes it more convincible. It touches on the issues of ethnic discrimination, segregation, gunrunning and munition industry. I think it’s far, far better and deeper than Transformer.
